Cherry Vale, Waddingham
You might be able to see for miles and miles across the flatlands of the upper levels of Lincolnshire (apart from a few dykes) but access for drilling rigs, associated plant and ancillary equipment can be worse than in central London!
Our D80 drill rig crew discovered this upon arrival at this site to carry out 4 x 100 and 1 x 200 metre crossings to install a 355mm and a 280mm water main to link a sewage treatment works with a pumping station. The connection was required for a small village on behalf of Anglian Water.
Nothing is ever as simple as it seems! Whilst the ground (eventually) was wonderful to drill through, the route to site didn’t seem to include much in the way of asphalt and a group of once burly drillers looked like a bunch of fell runners when they finally arrived at the drill site.
But never daunted, they finished a three week job in just 8 days – the lack of pubs and any sort of night life in the surrounding fields did help to maintain momentum.
After that it was just a matter of getting off the fields and getting home.
Balfour’s Site Manager put it all very succinctly when he said “Chiltern Thrust Bore? Just tip top”.

Very pleased with how professional you were, and how quickly you finished the project.
